<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
To make your skin glow
and remain young you require some high quality natural anti aging skin
care products which you can find out at any physical store or online
store. The selection can be termed as imperative element since it gives
you a young skin free from all types of wrinkles, blemishes. So it is
very critical to select any type of face anti aging
product. The skin is regarded as the main element of your body; hence
it has to be taken care the best. Your skin protects you types of
weather including cold or wet and things like dirt and toxins. The
natural anti aging skin products are made up of natural stuffs which are
free from any kind of side things and repercussions. There are few
things you need to stay away from. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
A majority of natural
anti aging facial care and skin care products stay away from a amount of
mineral oils, cheap kinds of fragrances and parabens since they can
prove lethal to your skin and your overall healthiness in a quantity of
ways. These parabens are seen in a wide range of tumors and a amount of
mineral oils which can move deep inside and clog pores, thus not
allowing your skin to breathe. All natural skin care products are seen
away from these things and therefore prove out to be the best skin care
for aging skin. The alcohols and fragrances may give you some
superficial advantages like nice smell and cool feeling; however, they
can nullify the fine effects of the high quality natural ingredients
used in the natural skin care products. There are some precise kinds of
alcohols which can cause allergy and can be fatal for your skin. Hence
with these you cannot expect to get the Natural Facelift. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
The chemical based or
synthetic types of anti aging care products use ingredients which are
very harmful for the skin. The reasons they employ these ingredients is
owing to the fact that these are available at extremely low cost hence
all the big and small groups use them in their number of anti aging
facial care products. These also bring down the production costs and
also degree their products shelf life. This is the primary reason why
you are supposed to stay away from these chemical based products. They
may give you some short term domino effect by making your skin glow and
helpful, however, in the long run they have harmful side things which no
one can manage to pay for to have over their skins. However, the
opposite is the case of the natural skin care products as they use
protected and natural ingredients which are rich in vitamins and
nutrients thus giving a improved shine to your skin. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
In order to keep your
skin glowing and young it requires two imperative elements elastin and
collagen. These are produced inside your body naturally till certain
age. These are called as the two natural compounds which degrade over a
phase of time which are necessary to be replaced. The <a href="http://www.zimbio.com/go/thv599PvoHh/http://www.elishea.com">aging skin care</a>
products carry out any of the two things for your skin, either they
supply your skin with the collagen and elastic or just stimulate your
body to produce these compounds additional within. This is the reason
why face anti aging has a boom time these days.</div>

<br />
Anti-aging skin care products are very popular today,
who doesn’t want to look young for ever? There are some key natural
ingredients that can make anti-aging skin care products even better.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7tnXq7jTXTjiaVy2L1Wx0tL_Y2-xJ3_LKg67TC3deR4-ggZzxkofiMgRaQtjYikXyYtZUm3NIrT9vf0BnyDvmfCDzwD1At4VBFrAEWftRKIJ6QDRiKzP43xYvCqlQqTobQ8oumXb9ntih/s1600/natural.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="natural ingredients" border="0" height="281" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7tnXq7jTXTjiaVy2L1Wx0tL_Y2-xJ3_LKg67TC3deR4-ggZzxkofiMgRaQtjYikXyYtZUm3NIrT9vf0BnyDvmfCDzwD1At4VBFrAEWftRKIJ6QDRiKzP43xYvCqlQqTobQ8oumXb9ntih/s400/natural.jpg" title="Natural Ingredients in Anti-aging Skin Care Products" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: magenta;"><b>http://tinyurl.com/Anti-Aging-Natural-Ingredients</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The first thing that comes to mind is vitamin C based anti-aging skin
care products. These products work by enabling the synthesis of
collagen (a structural protein that is found in skin). This category of
anti-aging skin care products is related to anti-oxidants. Anti-aging
skin care products that are based on vitamin C are, however, posed with
the danger of getting oxidised themselves (as they come into contact
with air during their usage).<br />
<br />
So some anti-aging skin care products are
based on the derivatives of vitamin C, which are more stable and less
expensive. However, the effectiveness of such anti-aging skin care is
not as much as it is for vitamin C based anti-aging skin care products.<br />
<br />
Besides vitamin C, vitamin E and alpha lipoic acid are anti-oxidants
too. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble anti-oxidant that is found in human
blood and helps in building resistance against infection. Vitamin E is
also known to inhibit cancer. Alpha Lipoic acid is known to combat the
signs of aging very effectively by reversing the skin damage caused by
the aging process.<br />
<br />
Phytochemicals form the other category of anti aging skin care products.
Phytochemical are special chemicals that are extracted from plants.
There are a variety of phytochemicals that are in use today.
Phytochemicals prevent occurrence of cancer of certain types; these
include prostate cancer, breast cancer and colon cancer. That is why
they find their place in anti-aging skin care products.<br />
<br />
Some B-vitamins like B5, B6 and B12 are also in use for anti-aging skin care products.<br />
The field of anti-aging skin care products is vast and needs a lot of
research. Though the currently available products are effective, they
still have challenges to combat. Hopefully, these challenges will get
resolved in due course and help get better and cheaper anti aging skin
care products.<br />
<br />However, anti-aging skin care products should be used only as a
supplement to the natural ways of skin and body care. <i>So, drinking a lot
of water, getting a good night sleep, exercising regularly, maintaining
healthy eating habits and keeping stress at bay are essential means of
delaying the aging process.</i><br />

If you aren’t familiar with immunosenescence, this is the reduced effectiveness of the immune system as a person gets older. There are some studies that indicate Reishi may help to improve the immune system and get things back into balance. Such studies also indicate that it may help to add more years to a person’s life.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: magenta;"><b>http://tinyurl.com/Reishi-Benefits</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
With immunoscenescence, a person is more likely to develop cancer and infections as they age. They are also less likely to be responsible to vaccinations and the use of antibiotics. As a result, it can reduce the quality of life, it can limit mobility, result in disabilities, and result in death among older populations.<br />
<br />
<span id="more-231"></span><br />
Reishi mushrooms are a type of Chinese medicine that is very old and embedded in their culture. They are commonly used to help promote the power of the immune system and to increase overall longevity and quality of life. Scientific studies have found that the compounds found in these mushrooms can fight immunosenescence and also help with increasing a person’s life. From 7 to 16 years may be added to the person’s life.<br />
<br />
<b>How does Reishi Help?</b><br />
<br />
It can help to reduce the natural process of the immune system breaking down as a person gets older. That is why the elderly are more prone to develop help related problems. There are three compounds that have been identified in Reishi:<br />
<ul>
<li>Polysaccharides</li>
<li>LZ-8</li>
<li>Triterpenes</li>
</ul>
These compounds help to promote positive responses that protect the body from various forms of infections. They can stem from:<br />
<ul>
<li>Bacteria</li>
<li>Viruses</li>
<li>Fugus</li>
</ul>
Reishi helps to promote cells that allow the body to heal and to fight cancer cells. It can also make the tetanus vaccine more powerful and the body able to respond to it better. The growth of bone marrow with Reishi can also help due to the proteins that it offers.<br />
<br />
I’ve been doing some research on the best supplements and one stands out above the rest: <b>Reishi supplement from Mushroom Science</b>. It’s hot-water extracted and based on a ton of research. I’ve been taking it for years and heartily recommend it.<br />

<div class="entry">
<span style="font-size: small;">Anti aging therapy
is a revolutionary concept in today’s “Health-fueled” economy and does
have its benefits. There are certain common-sense things you’ll learn
and maybe some that aren’t so common. Either way; you’re still moving
towards the same goal of healthier, younger-looking and feeling you. In
the end; anti aging therapy all boils down to a small, simple concept
with a huge impact and that is, “live a healthy lifestyle”, plain and
simple. Work with caloric restrictions and adequate nutrition to help
slow the aging process and even extend your lifespan. Aging itself is
unavoidable, but the major physical signs and impairment are completely
avoidable. It’s not impossible to live a healthy, younger,
disability-free lifestyle even well into your later years. A
support-web of family, friends, and health-care providers in combination
with focus and good nutritional habits can prevent disease and greatly
decrease the results of chronic conditions. There are a few things we’ll
tackle on the subject of anti aging therapy. The first of these is
“medications. </span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7YsJsRfy0MiMCX2KsxZ4XtH2hmarZ1dqh6O06oaomrr7ybHdPrAVMmW47qC8P_-EAh0FtlocNOc4AeaIKS91a8vygeLf6EWOjZrix4VoIhygGppR14LczO3NrWKo_9UYpRGwd4iszgmPw/s1600/anti-aging1.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="Anti Aging Therapy" border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7YsJsRfy0MiMCX2KsxZ4XtH2hmarZ1dqh6O06oaomrr7ybHdPrAVMmW47qC8P_-EAh0FtlocNOc4AeaIKS91a8vygeLf6EWOjZrix4VoIhygGppR14LczO3NrWKo_9UYpRGwd4iszgmPw/s400/anti-aging1.jpg" title="Anti Aging Therapy" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: magenta;"><b>http://tinyurl.com/Anti-Aging-Therapy</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Pain-killers are by far the most common drug in association with the
elderly. As well as diretics (water pills), sedatives, antibiotics, and
mental-health drugs. Some of the common anti-aging drugs are Procaine,
Deanol, and Levodopa. After this you have more drastic methods, but this
all dependant on your goals. For instance. ERT( Estrogen Replacement
Therapy) is commonly prescribed to women in the postmenopausal phase to
battle the aging symptoms it procures. ERT will work to keep the bones
increasingly durable, reduce the chances of a heart disease, and improve
the elasticity of the skin. It’s also believed that this method of anti
aging therapy works to maintain important mental functions that can
wither in old-age. After this we’ll go backwards to the topic of caloric
restriction. A ground-breaking that is simpler than the results it
delivers.<br />
<br />
Caloric restriction is the only known method that can possibly delay
human aging. CR (Caloric Restriction) is as simple as its name implies.
It is constituted in anti aging therapy
as diet with fewer calories, but still delivering the needed
nutritional content that our bodies need to function properly. It has
been shown that CR increased longevity in more than 50% of certain
mammals as well as other beneficial secondary effects such as
weight-loss, but it is often hard for people to maintain such a strict
diet regiment. Anti aging therapy is all abound extending the longevity
of humans in a healthy lifespan while keep that youth and vitality. It
is not prolonging time spent in some form of age-related disability or
hardship. The years gained are meant to be enjoyed not just to be clung
to. Researchers are working to find compounds that mimic the benefits of
CR and have been for a long time. Most recently; a number of molecules
known as small molecule activators of sirtuins have been under the
spotlight as believed to be capable of mimicking CR, but these are sill
in the early stages of research. Whether or not someone wants to go
through this diet as a form of anti aging therapy is completely
dependant on their goals and desires.<br />
<br />
Finally we tackle proper nutritional supplements as part of your anti aging therapy.
The consumption of high-quality multi-vitamins is extremely
recommended. Common nutritional issues that are linked with the aging
process are B, A, C vitamins as well as folic acid, magnesium, zinc, and
iron; among others. Powdered multi-vitamin formulas in a gelatin
capsule are the best suggestion to prevent the further reduction of
stomach acids. Such formulas often contain other misc. nutrients such as
those that assist in the digestive process. While also included in
whatever your current diet plan is as well, it is still recommended for
additional applications of these common vitamins, etc.<br />
<br />
Anti aging therapy focuses on the culmination of all these various
aspects that occur or cause aging issues. At the same time they promote
the use of various creams and lotions that work to compliment your
younger, healthier feel with a younger, healthier look. Beginning anti
aging therapy is a big step and there is no right time, but once began
it’s important you stick to it until you see yourself in the light you
want.<br />

<img align="left" alt="Optimal Health Pyramid" border="0" height="110" src="http://www.antiaging-systems.com/media/optimal_health_pyramid.jpg" title="Optimal Health Pyramid" width="110" /> We’ve done our best to simplify the answers for you by breaking down
the protocols and products into 4 categories. We hope that you enjoy
reading about this program and trust that you find great benefit from
following its path. <i>We all know that prevention is the best cure!</i><br />
<br />
Due to the wide array of the <b><a href="http://www.antiaging-systems.com/articles/160-theories-of-aging" title="theories of aging">theories of aging</a></b>,
it is best to “manage” your aging on several different levels. In
order to simplify the process as much as possible, we’ve designed the
ultimate optimal health pyramid. This comprises of four levels:<br />
<ul>
<li>Basics.</li>
<li>Additional.</li>
<li>Advanced.</li>
<li>Premium.</li>
</ul>
The ultimate optimal health pyramid visualizes the advantages of each
stage, enabling you to “build” the strongest program for your own
optimal health. In this way that the greatest long-term health benefits
can be obtained.<br />

</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<h1>
The IAS ultimate optimal health pyramid</h1>
<h1>
Basics - The essentials</h1>
This level can best be described as lifestyle elements comprising of:<br />
<b>1. Exercise:</b><br />
Studies show that exercise does
not have to be extremely vigorous or intense. Just 3 or 4 decent
workouts each week- i.e., brisk walks, cycling, swimming or gym
attendance for 40 minutes at a time, (and rotated so that you stimulate
different muscle groups) can be very beneficial for physical
condition, heart and mental outlook etc. Additional efforts, like
climbing stairs and parking away from the shops can all make a
difference.<b> </b><br />
<br />
<b>2. Eat and cook sensibly:</b><br />
No single diet works
for everyone, watch your calorie intake and understand carbohydrates,
(i.e., simple and complex) and how they change when food is cooked
differently, (e.g. boiled or grilled etc). Always choose organic and
avoid all processed foods, avoid saturated and hydrogenated fats (i.e.
animal and margarine) - instead choose mono unsaturated fats, the good
oils include olive, canola, sesame, sunflower and walnut. If you really
can’t do without sweetness then choose fructose or Xylitol over
sucrose. Avoid foodstuffs that trigger excitotoxins, particularly
aspartame and monosodium glutamate. Avoid eating the same things all
the time and discover how to balance your body’s Ph through diet. Lower
your estrogenic and toxin levels by not cooking anything in plastics
and saran wraps, (also avoid freezing in the same). Some also believe
that food cooked in microwaves should be avoided, but certainly all
aluminum as well as non-stick pots, pans and cutlery should be
eliminated from your kitchen.<b> </b><br />
<br />
<b>3. Drink water regularly:</b><br />
Consume 2 to 3 liters
of pure water per day, (spring water in glass bottles). Do not
substitute water for tea, coffee or beer etc., these drinks are
diuretics, i.e. you will lose more water than you put in- especially
true of coffee. Excess alcohol will inhibit your liver/ kidney function
and lead to an accumulation of estrogens, (hence weight gain) but red
wine (due to the presence of resveratrol and antioxidants) has been
shown to be beneficial to blood/ heart health in small doses. As we
dehydrate with age, this problem can be overcome by drinking water
before you feel thirsty.<b> </b><br />
<br />
<b>4. Be positive:</b><br />
Maintain a loving, social and active persona to have a positive outlook.<b> </b><br />
<br />
<b>5. Relax:</b><br />
Chill out! Whether it’s meditation or by other means- do what’s best for you to regularly reduce your stress levels.<b> </b><br />
<br />
<b>6. Get some sunshine:</b><br />
Around 30-minutes of
sunshine a day can dramatically improve vitamin D levels. This has many
benefits, e.g., a recent study highlighted that men with higher
vitamin D levels had half the incidence of prostate cancer. But
remember that over doing sun/ UV exposure can lead to skin cancers and
accelerate the appearance of aged skin/ wrinkles through “photoaging.” A
careful balance needs to be maintained. Our Beyond Bone Defense
contains a very high strength of 1200IU of vitamin D in each capsule.<b> </b><br />
<br />
<b>7. Maintain a healthy sleep pattern:</b><br />
Deep sleep
(REM) and regular sleep patterns are a key to feeling alert, focused
and on good form. Melatonin Zn Se is an amazing supplement that can
help you do that, especially if you work irregular hours or travel
frequently.<b> </b><br />
<br />
<b>8. Avoid pollution:</b><br />
Do whatever you can to spend as little time around cigarette smoke and pollution.<br />
<h2>
<br />Additional</h2>
When you’re ready to take some additional steps to attain your own
optimal health, then you can begin your trek into antiaging proper : <br />
<ul>
<li><b>Control your allergies:</b> <br />Be aware of what your
allergic reactions. Everyone has some allergies to varying degrees, the
most common are those associated with pollens, dairy produce and other
foodstuffs such as wheat, coffee, food colorants etc. The “hidden”
allergies are those linked with pesticides, plastics and metals,
(particularly mercury and nickel). Plus there are other chemicals,
including coatings and preservatives, (like arsenic found in pressed
wood or formaldehyde in other household materials), many more to be
found in personal care products, (i.e. perfumes and soaps) or household
cleaners etc. It is clear that allergies may be responsible for a wide
variance of disorders, including skin disorders, asthma and depression
but they also lead to an increase of “allergy antibodies” such as IgE
and histamine- causing inflammation, (a trigger for many diseases,
particularly heart conditions).. The effects of many allergies can be
reduced by good gut ecology, which is supported by the use of “friendly”
bacteria (probiotics). In addition, supplements that can aid with
allergies and inflammation include; vitamin C and MSM (both contained in
Beyond C), thymus peptides (Thym-Uvocal), bromelain (Wobenzym N and
Endozym-Med), omega 3 oils (Omega Pro and Krill), magnesium (Gamalate),
vitamin B12 (Beyond B12) and anti-histamines like Zirtec. </li>
<br /><br />
<li><b>Excrete your toxic body burdens:</b> <br />The simple
facts are that because of industrial pollution- eating, drinking,
breathing and bathing means we are constantly absorbing endocrine
(hormone) disruptors; particularly pseudo estrogens derived from
plastics and pesticides and in addition- heavy metals, such as mercury
from eating fish, cadmium from road tire abrasion, arsenic from wood
contact, lead from coal burning etc. All of these can be absorbed by
our systems each and every day. Thus, over time, these result in a list
of issues and problems that could fill the rest of this publication!
Much of this is now recognised and well documented, and the lifelong
work of chelation (meaning the removal of heavy metals) expert, Garry
Gordon, M.D., has highlighted the natural substances; EDTA, DMSA, malic
acid and allicin etc., as having great affinity to remove these toxic
burdens- even when taken orally. So to detox metals
such as mercury, lead, arsenic, cadmium and aluminium, we recommend
the regular use of Essential Daily Defense and for more extreme cases;
Heavy Detox. Those with particular concerns about their dental work can
look to the unique EZ Defense Gum and healthy bathing can now be
achieved through the use of the unique bath salts; Beyond Clean.
Estrogens can be detoxed more rapidly and efficiently with the use of
DIM-Pro and Beyond C. Saunas (particularly the new infa-red ones) are
also a welcome part in the overall battle against the by-products of
modern life. </li>
<br /><br />
<li><b>Reduce your parasites:</b> <br />We may not like the fact
that we share our bodies with millions of other organisms. But while
some of them are welcome as “friendly” bacteria, others such as flukes
and yeasts place a strain upon our systems, consuming our nutrition and
then excreting ammonia, which then has to be removed. The symptoms of
parasite excess can be experienced as lethargy, depression and fatigue.
Our ancestors used to worm themselves regularly- using substances such
as wormwood, but what they didn’t realize is that it also helped
remove flukes too, lessening the “strain” upon their system.
Artemisinin is the active extract of wormwood and is now available in
this “concentrated” form, so its occasional “anti-fluke” use is
recommended. Yeasts and other parasites can be combated with oregano,
olive leaf, licorice, mushroom extracts and zinc, which are all
contained in Immuni-T3. There is also the drug treatment for yeast
infections (such as candida/ thrush) with fluconazole. </li>
<br /><br />
<li><b>Boost your immunity:</b> <br />Much can be done to
maintain a strong immune system by the methods described in the
“toxins” and “parasite” sections described previously. Good immunity is
vital because it ensures that we remain strong and healthy. Should
infection set in, then its elimination as soon as possible is
essential. Before antibiotics were invented Silver proteins were used
to neutralize germs- they are still highly effective. Biostim is a
unique substance- this bacterial extract increases the white blood cell
count, enhancing natural immunity- before infection occurs. A course
of just 32-tablets can provide up to 12-months protection, making it
highly cost effective. There are of course a wide range of antibiotics
for the more serious infections, including the anti-influenza drug
Tamiflu. </li>
<br /><br />
<li><b>Support your methylation processes:</b> <br />Studies
show that the quality of food has declined consistently since the
1940’s. Intensive farming techniques and the fact that foodstuffs are
now transported over long distances, have all contributed to reduce its
nutritional quality and quantity. Furthermore, even if food was
perfect, it is clear that the battle against aging is not going to be
won by diet alone. Our bodies rely on a ready supply of agents to allow
chemical conversions to take place billions of times every second,
(e.g., methylation). To maintain healthy and constant methylation
requires the availability of a broad spectrum of vitamins, minerals,
aminoacids and essential oils. We recommend the excellent and complete
multi-vitamin with omega oils and much more; Beyond Chelation Improved
plus supplemental vitamin C (Beyond C), CoQ10 and SAMe. </li>
</ul>
<h2>
<br />Advanced</h2>
As you become more aware of the methodology behind antiaging, you
will realize that having a strong base gives even greater benefit to the
advanced level, as described here:<br />
<ul>
<li><b>Target specific areas of your personal weaknesses:</b> <br />Everyone
has their own individual issues, whether it is a troubling joint ache,
aged skin or a heart condition, it may even be a concern about family
history, such as parents who suffered from a senile dementia or cancer.
They spur us on to take measures to improve and prevent. </li>
<br /><br />
<li><b>Enhance your brain function:</b> <br />One of the most
overlooked areas in antiaging medicine today is brain support, its
enhancement and nutrition. Clearly this is of fundamental importance,
as the brain is the command center over a hierarchy of organs.
Furthermore, who are we if we are not lucid? Maintaining good brain
health safeguards against dementia and it also lessens depression;
additionally it can make us more interesting, bright, attentive and
informative individuals. </li>
</ul>
<h2>
<br />Premium</h2>
What do we find at the top of the pyramid?<br />
<ul>
<li><b>Maintain a youthful balance of hormones:</b> <br />The
most discussed area of antiaging medicine is the use of bio-identical
hormones. This effort to maintain youthful levels of hormones includes;
DHEA, cortisol, estrogens, human growth hormone, melatonin,
pregnenolone, progesterone, testosterone, thymus and <a href="http://www.antiaging-systems.com/178-thyroid-armour-nature-westroid" target="_self" title="Thyroid">thyroid</a>.
These “chemical messengers” are powerful agents and the question
arises is aging caused by the hormonal imbalance/ change, or do the
hormone imbalance/ change cause aging? Bioidentical hormone replacement
therapy- when used correctly can help improve immune function, skin
thickness, hair quality, muscle mass, fat levels, organ condition and
well being etc. Apart from taking hormones themselves, there are a
number of drugs and supplements that can adjust balances. Whether they
are aromatase inhibitors such as Arimidex or Femara or prolactin
inhibitors such as bromocriptine or cabergoline or DHT inhibitors such
as Finasteride or Dutasteride etc., there is a lot of choice available
today. But as hormones require blood testing and other monitoring- best
performed by a health professional, this category has been placed into
the “premium” section.</li>
<br /><br />
<li><b>Incorporating emerging technologies:</b> <br />At the
very top end of the scale are the new emerging technologies, in
particular stem cells and micro-RNAs. Whilst stem cells are available
now, due to current delivery systems, they are at present not highly
targeted to individual needs. Hopefully the greater understanding of
their use and easier (indeed less controversial) methods of their
production could see their cost decline dramatically and thereby more
widespread use. In addition, emerging evidence about the roles of RNA
(ribonucleic acid) in gene expression, may very soon give us tools that
would be able to switch genes on and off, for example; cancer-genes
off and anti-cancer genes on etc. We live in exciting times. </li>

Antioxidants are advertised
by many but few ever have
the whole range of
antioxidants that your body
needs. Antioxidants are
those chemical substances
naturally found in plants.
They serve as your first
line of defense against
illness and aging. </span><br />

</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">
</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">Oxidation
is a process that our bodies
normally undergo. It is that
process which allows us to
function properly, to
breathe, to move. But what
is good for us may also have
negative effects to our
bodies. Oxidative damage can
result from the production
of excess oxygen byproducts
called free radicals that
react with our healthy
cells, causing cellular
damage and leading to
degenerative diseases. Our
bodies are naturally
protected by a defense
system against oxidative
damage, however, human
beings are one of the few
animals that cannot produce
the amount of antioxidants
necessary to combat the
accumulation of free
radicals in our bodies. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">
</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">
<b>Antioxidants - The Right
Prescription </b></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">
</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">Recent
studies have shown that free
radicals are linked to
various diseases, such as
cancer, arthritis,
atherosclerosis, heart
disease, and even aging.
With the right antioxidant
formula, you can very well
prevent the onset of these
diseases, even to the extent
of age reversal. Several
researchers believe that
antioxidant formulas are
best if derived from fresh
produce such as fruits and
vegetables. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">
</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">
<u>Antioxidant Prescription-
Vitamins and Vitamin-forming
Compounds </u></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">
</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">Some
antioxidant
Prescriptioncontains
substances that are familiar
to us, like vitamins or
vitamin-forming compounds.
Vitamin E, vitamin C,
vitamin A, Coenzyme Q, and
carotenoids, these are but a
few of the ingredients found
in an antioxidant formula. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">
</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">Vitamin E,
C, A, coenzyme Q10, and
carotenoids found in
antioxidant formulas must be
constantly replenished
through the diet. The body
manufactures others, but the
levels of many of these can
be bolstered through dietary
supplements. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">
</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">Vitamin A
for instance is required for
night vision, and for
healthy skin. Many believe
as well that consuming
antioxidant formulas that
contain vitamin A helps slow
aging. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">
</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">New
studies show that
antioxidants don't often
play its role in isolation.
Scientists have found that
antioxidants work best when
they are working in
conjunction with other
antioxidants. There is in
fact a dynamic interplay
among the systems with
various antioxidant cycles
acting to prevent cell
damage and disease. So, an
antioxidant Prescriptionthat
contains as much antioxidant
types possible is the best
way to go for. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">
</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">The body's
defense mechanism is
composed of various
antioxidants with different
functions. Antioxidant
formulas have been
formulated to contain all
the antioxidants that
research has found necessary
for effective
detoxification. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><br />
<b>A Great Natural Serum
</b><br />
<br />
The world is filled with natural ingredients that claim to be excellent
anti aging products. However, there is an ingredient unlike the others:
snail serum. This ingredient not only rejuvenates skin, but it can also
help promote quick healing.
<br />
<br />
It seems like a miraculous claim, but it is true. This natural serum,
according to scientific findings, is packed with traces of copper,
calcium, and zinc. It also contains proteins, enzymes, co-enzymes,
complex polysaccharides, and powerful antioxidants that help nurture
skin.
<br />
<br />
This serum can activate the skin's regenerative ability and speed up
cell turnover, thus helping prevent premature aging. This means that
dead and dying cells are replaced more quickly than normal. The outer
layer of the skin begins to look smoother and younger looking.
<br />
<br />
<b>Traditional Antioxidants and other Ingredients
</b><br />
<br />
When a product that contains snail serum is combined with Vitamin C, a
natural antioxidant, this product becomes a potent anti aging lotion.
There have been several studies made to show that Vitamin C plays a part
the production of collagen and elastin. Plus, it has been known to
improve cell renewal and circulation.
<br />
<br />
These properties help to reduce skin wrinkles and minimize the damage
caused UV radiation, pollution, and smoking. This anti aging cream
contains a stable form of Vitamin C known as ascorbic acid, which will
allow you to reap the full benefits it has to offer.
<br />
<br />
This natural product also contains red seaweed extracts. This natural
ingredient can provide the skin with firmness and help absorb moisture.
As an added plus, they also help trigger the skin's natural ability to
protect itself.
<br />
<br />
Hyaluronic Acid is another important ingredient found in this amazing
natural skin vitalizer cream. This glycosaminoglycan is present in all
skin tissues. It helps retain moisture (up to 1000 molecules of water
per one molecule of ingredient) and keep the skin from wrinkling.
<br />
<br />
The preservatives used in this product are only derived from natural
ingredients like rosemary, lavender and lemon, among many others.

Most anti aging creams will promise amazing results, however the truth
behind these promises can only be substantiated if they contain the
right ingredients. In order to get your money's worth you need to learn
how to read the list of ingredients. This is especially useful if you
have aging or sensitive skin.<br />

<b>How to Deal with Premature Aging Skin
</b><br />
<br />
The first part of your skin that will show signs of premature aging is
your face. The first signs are usually skin wrinkles around the eyes,
mouth and forehead. Another sign is that your skin will become dry and
brittle.
<br />
<br />
Here are a few tips that can help you pick the right anti aging cream:
<br />
<br />
- Rejuvenate your skin with a skin vitalizer made of age fighting
ingredients. The most common of these ingredients are usually retinol,
ascorbic acids and alpha-hydroxy acids. All three of these ingredients
can diminish the depth of wrinkles and help reveal healthy skin.
<br />
<br />
<span style="color: red;">Vitamin A</span> produces a minor inflammatory action that puffs up the skin.
<span style="color: magenta;">AHA</span>s promote skin shedding and reveal new, healthier skin. While <span style="color: red;">Vitamin
C</span> is known to help boost circulation, collagen production, and skin
repair.
<br />
<br />
- Choose products with as few fillers as possible. Examples of fillers
include fragrances and additives that can irritate your skin, especially
if you have dry skin.
<br />
<br />
- Another ingredient that should not be found in skin care products is
alcohol. Alcohol can dehydrate the skin making it brittle, thin, and
more prone to wrinkling.
<br />
<br />
- Collagen-based products aren't all they're made out to be. Although
collagen is an essential part of healthy skin, the collagen molecules
found in these products are too large to penetrate the skin. So, it's
best to find a collagen boosting product, instead.
<br />
<br />
<b>Learn How to Prevent Premature Aging
</b><br />
<br />
Preventing premature aging is just as important as treating it. There
are several things you can do to keep your skin looking young for as
long as possible.
<br />
<br />
The best way to slow down the aging process is by using a good
sunscreen. A lotion that has an SPF of 30 will keep your skin protected
from UV exposure. Also, don't forget to reapply frequently so that the
effect of the sunscreen doesn't wear off.
<br />
<br />
Smoking is, by far, one of the worst habits for your lungs and your
skin. As a matter of fact, studies have shown that smoking produces free
radicals, dehydrates the skin, and even promotes the appearance of
wrinkles. These problems not only affect your face, but also the skin
all over your body.
<br />
<br />
Following a poorly balanced diet can also contribute to poor skin. Make
sure you consume plenty of water, fresh fruits and vegetables.<br />

<span style="font-size: small;">Some things in life never

seems highly relevant when
we consider the aspect of
skin. The aging process of
the skin keeps on happening.
You cannot reverse it, you
cannot change it. But still
you want to remain young
forever. So what are your
options? How can you
maintain that glow, that
softness, that radiance on
your skin in tact? In fact
how far you can run from the

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: x-small;"> </span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: x-small;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Well, the answer lies within
the question. If you want to
prolong the aging process,
you would need an anti-aging
element. Yes, you guessed it
right; I am talking about
the anti-aging skin care for
you. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">
With the modern anti-aging
skin care products, it does
not seem difficult to
prolong the appearance of
aging symptoms on the face.
After the invention and
success of anti-aging skin
care process, people have
regained their spirits of
looking beautiful regardless
of age. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">
Today, one of the biggest
and successful areas in the
field of cosmetic facial
treatments is anti-aging
care. People want their
overall looks and appearance
to be attractive even after
50 or 60 years of age. It
will not be exaggeration if
we say that they are into
head on competition with the
younger generation in the
race of beauty. People have
not been that desperate to
look young ever before, than
they are today. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">
And leading ahead in this
anti-aging race are women.
It seems that they want to
remove the word old from
their dictionary. We all
introduce ourselves to this
world as little babies.
Gradually we grow up as
children, teenagers, adults
and old people. During this
transformation course, the
texture, softness and
radiance of the skin
encounters frequent changes. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">
You can see the effects of
aging on your skin along
with certain other factors
like type of skin, genes,
chemical exposure, sun
exposure, pollution and much
more. All these factors
leave a negative effect on
your skin in the form of
skin damage, counting
wrinkles, lines and spots.
Other common aging effects
becoming common with age are
pre-cancerous skin changes
or actinic keratosis.
Considering all these
aspects, it becomes even
more essential for you to
take care of your skin and
prevent it from pre-mature
aging symptoms. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">
The anti-aging skin care
works with the principle
that it is impractical to
discontinue the natural
process of aging; still it
is possible to put it into
the rear seat. There are
many choices available in
anti-aging skin care to
delay the process of aging.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">It primarily includes
medical treatments and
cosmetic surgery. The
anti-aging solutions and
treatments are proliferating
in the form of various
anti-aging products. These
anti-aging products are
quite effective. They can be
taken for both internal and
external treatment. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;"> </span><span style="font-size: small;">
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">
Beside the use of the
cosmetic products, advanced
skin treatments and
surgeries have also come up
as the part of anti-aging
skin care. These modern skin
care techniques are made to
minimize the effects of
aging as much as possible. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">In most of the cases, the
treatments use cosmetic
techniques and offer you a
rejuvenated and youthful
appearance that is more
beautiful than ever before.
From powerful lasers to
Botox injections; and to
chemical peels, anti-aging
products work to treat
wrinkles and discolored
spots. You will be glad to
know that skin physicians
and aestheticians have a
great arrangement of tools
in their kits to fight all
the effects of aging. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;"> </span><span style="font-size: small;">
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;">
If you wish to prolong the
aging process and want to
look young for a very long
time, get up and embrace the
techniques of anti-aging
skin care. Anti-aging skin
care works like miracle that
is there for all to see.</span><br />

<h1>
<span style="font-size: large;">Sunscreen</span></h1>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;">Sunscreen is usually the last thing you apply as part of your
skincare routine<span style="font-size: small;"> </span>(or at least it should be!). We’ve chosen to talk about
it first as we feel it is the most important product you can use to
prevent aging (other than Botulinum toxins- which you should compliment
by using sunscreen anyway). </span></span><br />
<br />
Over 90% of sun damage is caused by incidental exposure such as the
commute to work, short walks etc! UV radiation can lead to sunburn,
accelerate skin ageing and stimulate skin discolouration (freckles and
dark patches on the skin or age spots), so it is important to wear
sunscreen everyday!<br />
<br />
The most important thing to know about sunscreen is to only purchase a
sunscreen which clearly states on the label that it is Broad Spectrum
or has Multi Wave protection. If the sunscreen is cheap and does not say
either of these on the labels, there is a good chance that it will only
block out UVB rays (which will <span style="text-decoration: underline;">not</span> protect you from skin cancer which is caused by UVA and UVB rays!)<br />
<br />
Sunscreens come in 3 different forms:<br />
- Chemical- Neutralise the UV rays within the skin<br />
- Physical- form a physical barrier between your skin and UV rays (quite thick)<br />
- Hybrid- combine physical and chemical sunscreen (thinner in consistency to physical barriers)<br />
<br />
Whilst a sunscreen and moisturiser combination is better than
nothing, the moisturiser may dilute the sunscreen content and not
provide you with the SPF protection stated on the packaging. So wherever
possible use a moisturiser and separate sunscreen of at least SPF15. A
broad spectrum SPF 15 is often lighter on the skin than SPF 30 and
provides 95% protection from UV rays compared to 97% for SPF30.<span style="font-size: small;"> </span>Remember to apply your sunscreen 30 minutes before leaving the house!</div>
<h1 style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"></span></span> </span></span></h1>
<br />
<br />
<h1>
<span style="font-weight: normal;"></span><span style="font-size: large;">Tyrosinase Inhibitors</span></h1>
Tyrosinase Inhibitors are used to treat all forms of pigmentation of
the skin, other than those caused by genetics. They can act on other internal sources, such as
Hormones and medications (such as the contraceptive pill) and external
sources such as UV exposure and Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation.
Tyrosinase Inhibitors work by blocking or sedating the production of
melanin which causes your skin to have dark spots.<br />
<br />
The most common over the counter Tyrosinase inhibitors are from
plants (such as ascorbic acid-Vitamin C, Mulberry extract, Kojic acid
etc). If over the counter medication is not doing enough to reduce your
spots, doctor’s can recommend and prescribe stronger creams such as
Hydroquinone (banned in Australia) or Azelaic acid.<br />
<br />
It is advised that all skin undergoing resurfacing or rejuvenating
(eg./Chemical peels, IPL, Laser Photo Dynamic Therapy) be prepped with
Tyrosinase inhibitors to reduce the risk of post-inflammatory
hyperpigmentation.<br />
<br />
<u>Method of use:</u><br />
Tyrosinase inhibitors should be applied twice daily for a minimum of 2
months. It is imperative to wear a broad spectrum sunscreen whilst
using Tyrosinase inhibitors.<br />
<br />
<br />
<h2 class="entry-title">
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA)</h2>
<div class="entry-content">
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) are a group of water soluble naturally occurring acids found in nature and the human body.<br />
<br />
Primary benefits:<br />
<ul>
<li>exfoliation (unlike most scrubs the AHA’s penetrate the skin to
target dead cells and level off the peaks and troughs of the skin from
within the skin. Scrubs simply rub off the top of the peaks without
altering the skins surface)</li>
<li>hydration (AHA’s stimulate Hyaluronic acid within the skin which provides moisture and resilience to the skin</li>
</ul>
An added benefit of AHAs is that they only target dead cells.<br />
<br />
Best to use:<br />
<ul>
<li>lactic acid- (less aggressive and more hydrating than glycolic acid) and</li>
<li>glycolic acid.</li>
</ul>
Beware using AHAs other than lactic and glycolic. You may find you
are spending money for nothing as any other AHA molecule is often too
large to penetrate into the skin so will provide little to no benefit.<br />
It is also important to consider the following when choosing an AHA:<br />
<ul>
<li>Concentration: 7-14% is best</li>
<li>pH: pH3-pH4.5 any higher will provide no active benefit</li>
<li>Formulation: AHAs should not be contained in an oil based serum as
they are a water soluble product. Should never be combined with
retinoids (vitamin A derivatives) as the combination will de-activate
the activity and potency of the retinoid.</li>
</ul>
<u>Instructions for use:</u><br />
You may feel a tingling sensation after application of an AHA. This
is a good thing if the skin is tingling but staying the same colour. If
your skin goes red after application, seek assistance from your skin
specialist. Use for 6 months then just once a week / fortnight for maximum
benefit.</div>
<h2 class="entry-title">
</h2>
<h2 class="entry-title">
Retinoids</h2>
<div class="entry-title" style="text-align: left;">
</div>
Retinoids refer to any chemical compound related to Vitamin A (often
known as the anti-aging vitamin). The main function of Retinoids is<br />
<ul>
<li>Resurfacing (Retonoic acid has the ability to affect cell formation hence it’s reputation to reverse skin damage)</li>
<li>Exfoliation</li>
</ul>
Retinoids act in a number of ways:<br />
<ul>
<li>Promotes collagen production and elastin</li>
<li>Regulates cellular proliferation and differentiation</li>
<li>Increase epidermal thickness</li>
</ul>
Like with AHAs the concentration of retinoids has a great effect on
the effectiveness of the treatment. Retinoic acid is available only with
a Doctor’s prescription and is the strongest Retinoid. Retinol and
Retinaldehyde (Retinal) are both available in direct to the public
skincare at effective concentrations, and are considered the best to use
for the average individual. Many skincare ranges use Retinyl Palmitate
which is a much ‘weaker’ form of retinoid, so in order to gain maximum
benefit, avoid these products in favour of those which use Retinal or
Retinol.<br />
<br />
It is also important to use a Broad Spectrum Sunscreen to protect
your skin which can will become more photosensitive when using
retinoids.<br />
<br />
<u>Method of use:</u><br />
Each individual will have a different reaction to Retinoids. It may
be necessary to build up tolerance to the retinoid over one to two
months in order to avoid a reaction (rednesss etc). Use twice a week,
building up to every alternate evening and eventually to daily use for
6-12 months. After this time you should either give your skin a 6 month
break, or continue to use bi-weekly.<br />
<br />
It is always advised to seek the advice of your doctor if you become pregnant and would like to continue using Retinoids. </div>
<div class="entry-content">
</div>
<div class="entry-content">
<br />
<h2 class="entry-title">
Vitamin C</h2>
</div>
<div class="entry-content">
Vitamin C is a versatile skin care ingredient as it promotes collagen
synthesis, acts as an antioxidant and can be photo-protective. It can
also act as a <a href="http://www.antiaging.com.au/skin-care/tyrosinase-inhibitor/">Tyrosinase inhibitor </a>and lighten dark spots.<br />
<br />
Beware… if your Vitamin C product has turned orange or brown, it may
have oxidised and could actually do free radical damage! Many people
find it easier to purchase a Vitamin C powder and mix it with a water
based product to ensure it will work effectively.<br />
<br />
All clients seeking treatment for pigmentation, telangectasia
(dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin or mucous membranes)
or aged skin should incorporate Vitamin C into their skincare regime.
Smoking depletes the body of Vitamin C which is one of the reasons many
smokers show accelerated signs of aging around the mouth and eyes, so it
can be a very useful treatment these conditions also.<br />

There are many treatments available to combat the aging effects of
the sun, from creams to peels to lasers. Plus, reducing the signs of sun
damage can reduce your risk of developing skin cancer. The sun and the years take their toll on your skin. Photoaging
is often the first sign that your skin has been damaged, but such
repeated exposure can also lead to skin cancer. Luckily, many of the
treatments for photoaging not only restore skin's youthful appearance,
they also reduce your risk for developing skin cancers and precancers.<br />

<br />
<b>Prevention</b><br />
<br />
If you don't wear a sunscreen every
day, today is the day to start. Daily application of sunscreen with an
SPF of 15 or higher- whether on its own, or in a moisturizer - will
prevent additional damage to your skin. Also, studies have shown that
daily use of sunscreen can actually reduce the existing number of <a href="http://www.skincancer.org/skin-cancer-information/actinic-keratosis">actinic keratoses</a> - abnormal skin eruptions, or precancers, that can lead to skin cancer.<br />
<br />
<b>Retinoids</b><br />
<br />
Retinoids have been a breakthrough
discovery for the treatment of photoaged skin. Synthetic derivatives of
Vitamin A, they can improve discoloration of the skin, degeneration of
elastic tissue, and fine wrinkling by enhancing naturally occurring
production of collagen and elastic fibers. In addition to
giving skin back its youthful appearance, retinoids can inhibit tumor
growth, decrease inflammation, and enhance the immune system. Continuing
use of retinoids can reduce the number and size of actinic keratoses.
Currently, two retinoids are available in the US for treatment of
photoaging: tretinoin (2) and tazarotene. Note that retinoids can
irritate the skin and cause dryness and photosensitivity - an extreme
sensitivity to the sun. They are available by prescription only.<br />
<br />
<b>Lasers</b><br />
<br />
Lasers are used to vaporize the skin's
sun-damaged top layer, leaving a softer, smoother skin surface with less
pronounced wrinkles. With their pinpoint accuracy, lasers are ideal for sensitive skin areas such as around the eyes. The treatment can result in tenderness, scarring, redness and swelling that can last for several weeks while the new skin grows. Darker-skinned individuals can experience permanent loss of pigmentation.<br />
<br />
Lasers can be used for treatment of actinic keratoses, as well. A new technology called IPL (intense pulsed light) is a
non-skin-removing technique ("non-ablative") that offers patients a
softening of lines and shallow wrinkles, fading of some scars, removal
of broken capillaries, and stimulation of new collagen growth quickly. After-effects
can include swelling, redness, blotchiness, and darkening of pigmented
areas. Usually several sessions are needed for optimal results, and the
full effects of the treatments may not be visible for up to six months
after the final treatment.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Chemical peels</b><br />
<br />
Chemical peels are often used to rejuvenate the skin, reduce wrinkles, and treat actinic keratoses. A doctor removes layers of skin with a mild acid solution. Depending on the damage, a light, medium, or deep peel is used. After the skin heals, a smoother, younger-looking outer layer forms. Light
peels usually result in only a slight redness and photosensitivity, but
deeper peels can result in significant swelling, redness, and
photosensitivity that lasts for several weeks.<br />
<br />
<b>Dermabrasion</b><br />
<br />
Dermabrasion uses a small
high-speed, rotating metal brush or file to abrade the upper layers of
the skin and smooth out surface irregularities. It is used,
often with long-lasting results, for treatment of substantial wrinkling
and leathering from the sun, pigmentation problems, and acne scars. Either
local or general anesthetic is used during the procedure. Redness,
swelling and pain are typical after treatment. Healing can take from 7
to 14 days.<br />
<br />
For mild to moderate photoaging, a variation of the technique known
as microdermabrasion uses tiny particles that pass through a vacuum tube
to gently scrape away aging skin and stimulate new cell growth. Mild redness is typically the only side effect.<br />
<br />
<b>Botox</b><br />
<br />
Almost 20 years have passed since the first injections of botulinum toxin A were done for frown lines between the eyebrows. Since then, it has become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the US. When skin loses its elasticity, facial wrinkles develop and form lines - like the pleats of an accordion. Botox works by weakening or temporarily paralyzing the muscles and smoothing the wrinkle away.<br />
<br />
Botox is currently approved by the FDA only for the frown lines between the eyebrows. However,
it is used "off-label" (without FDA approval) for horizontal forehead
lines, crow's feet around the eyes, vertical lip lines and neck banding. Side
effects are usually mild to moderate, and can include bruising around
the injection area, headache and muscle weakness. Botox does not reduce
the incidence of skin cancer. It is a cosmetic procedure only.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Fillers</b><br />
<br />
Filling substances are injected under facial skin to round out contours and correct wrinkles, furrows and hollows. A
number of substances are currently used in the US as fillers, including
bovine collagen, polymer implants, and the patient's own (autologous)
fat. To maintain the effects of bovine collagen and autologous fat, the procedure needs to be repeated periodically. Some
patients are allergic to fillers, and a dermatologist should perform an
allergy test before treatment. Side effects can include redness,
swelling, bruising, and moderate pain, depending on the type of filler
used.<br />
<br />
Many of these treatments can be used in conjunction with
one another to produce younger-looking skin and reduce the risk of skin
cancer. It is important to consult with a licensed
dermatologist to discuss treatment options, as many of these treatments
can cause damage in inexperienced hands.<br />

<br />
(NaturalNews) Despite downright silly and inaccurate headlines just a
few weeks ago proclaiming that fish oil supplements rich in omega-3
fatty acids are a waste of money, now comes research that reveals the
opposite. Taking enough of these supplements appears to have enormous
health benefits -- including dramatic <i><b>anti-aging</b></i> effects.<br />
<br />
Last month, <i>Natural News</i>
told readers the truth about a much ballyhooed previous study which,
according to the inaccurate reporting by mainstream media, meant taking
omega-3 fatty acid supplements (almost always in the form of fish oil)
was a waste of money and did nothing to protect health (<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/037206_fish_oil_study_heart_attacks.html#ixzz286IedfrG" target="_blank">http://www.naturalnews.com</a>).
In fact, the study was not the last word about fish oil supplements at
all and even the researchers who conducted it didn't make that claim.<br />
<br />
It
was a meta-analysis of studies involving close to 70,000 people all
lumped together and included research subjects who had only taken
omega-3 supplements for a short while. Some took very little. Even the
authors of the study noted that "...an individual patient data
meta-analysis would be more appropriate to refine possible associations
related to, among others, dose, adherence, baseline intake, and
cardiovascular disease risk group." But that didn't stop the media from
ignoring that important point and proclaiming, as <i>ABC News </i>did, that omega-3s are "not a lifesaver" and do nothing for health in general.<br />
<br />
Now, a new study by <i>Ohio State University </i>researchers (just published online in the journal <i>Brain, Behavior, and Immunity</i>)
found that overweight but healthy middle-aged and older adults who took
a substantial amount (either 2.5 grams or 1.25 grams) of omega-3 <a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/supplements.html">supplements</a>
regularly for four months altered a ratio of their fatty acid
consumption in a way that boosted preservation of tiny DNA segments in
their white blood cells.<br />
<br />
What does this mean specifically? These miniscule DNA bits are known as <i>telomeres</i>. They shorten over time in many types of cells as a consequence of aging. <b><i>Stopping
this shortening of telomeres has long been thought to be a key to
halting the aging process or at least slowing it down.</i></b><br />
<br />
The <i>Ohio State </i>scientists
found that lengthening of telomeres in immune system cells was more
prevalent in people who substantially improved the ratio of omega-3s to
other fatty acids in their diet. What's more, the substantial and <i><u>regular </u></i>supplementation
also reduced oxidative stress, known to be caused by excessive free
radicals in the blood, by about 15 percent compared to the oxidative
stress measured in a control group of research subjects who received
placebos instead of real supplements.<br />
<br />
"<b><i>The telomere finding is provocative in that it suggests the possibility that a nutritional <a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/supplement.html">supplement</a> might actually make a difference in aging,"</i></b> said Jan Kiecolt-Glaser, professor of psychiatry and psychology at <i>Ohio State University </i>and lead author of the study, in a media statement.<br />
<br />
In
yet another finding from this study, Kiecolt-Glaser's research team
reported that omega-3 fatty acid supplements lowered inflammation in
this same group of adults. This blows the assertion that <a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/fish_oil.html">fish oil</a> has no heart benefits out of the water.<br />
<br />
"Inflammation
in particular is at the heart of so many health problems. Anything that
reduces inflammation has a lot of potentially good spinoffs among older
adults," Kiecolt-Glaser said. She added that people who are less
healthy -- especially those who are under chronic stress -- may gain
even more benefits from omega-3 supplementation.<br />
<br />
The scientists
also found that decreases in an inflammatory marker in the blood called
interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the people taking omega-3 supplements were
associated with telomere lengthening. In their earlier paper on omega-3s
and inflammation, the same researchers had already reported that
omega-3 supplements lowered IL-6 by 10 to 12 percent, depending on the
dose. By comparison, those taking a placebo saw an overall 36 percent
increase in inflammation-linked IL-6 by the end of the study.<br />
<br />
"This finding strongly suggests that inflammation is what's driving the changes in the telomeres," Kiecolt-Glaser said.<br />
<br />
The
researchers concluded that this combination of powerful and healthy
effects suggests that taking omega-3 supplements could represent a rare,
single nutritional intervention that has potential to provide
extraordinary health benefits. Specifically, taking these supplements
regularly may lower the risk for a host of diseases associated with
aging, including coronary heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, arthritis and
even mind-robbing Alzheimer's disease.<br />

<h2 id="summary">
Do over-the-counter wrinkle creams really reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles? The answer depends on many factors.
</h2>
<a href="http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/AboutThisSite/AM00057" id="staff">By Mayo Clinic staff</a><br />
<br />
Many wrinkle creams and lotions sold in department stores, in drugstores
and on the Internet promise to reduce wrinkles and prevent or reverse
damage caused by the sun. Do they work? Research suggests that some wrinkle creams contain
ingredients that may improve the appearance of wrinkles. But many of
these ingredients haven't undergone scientific research to prove this
benefit.<br />
<br />
If you're looking for a face-lift in a bottle, you probably won't find
it in over-the-counter (nonprescription) wrinkle creams. But they may
slightly improve the appearance of your skin, depending on how long you
use the product and the amount and type of the active ingredient in the
wrinkle cream.<br />
<br />

<br />
<h2>
Common ingredients in anti-wrinkle creams</h2>
The effectiveness of anti-wrinkle creams depends in part on the active
ingredient or ingredients. Here are some common ingredients that may
result in slight to modest improvement in the appearance of wrinkles.
<br />
<ul>
<li><strong>Retinol.</strong> Retinol is a vitamin A compound, the first
antioxidant to be widely used in nonprescription wrinkle creams.
Antioxidants are substances that neutralize free radicals — unstable
oxygen molecules that break down skin cells and cause wrinkles. Retinol
is less potent than the vitamin A derivative tretinoin, a topical
treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for
treating wrinkles. Tretinoin is available only by prescription. Avoid
vitamin A derivatives if you are pregnant or may become pregnant,
because they may increase the risk of birth defects.</li>
<li><strong>Hydroxy acids.</strong> Alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy
acids and poly hydroxy acids are synthetic versions of acids derived
from sugar-containing fruits. These acids are exfoliants — substances
that remove the upper layer of old, dead skin and stimulate the growth
of smooth, evenly pigmented new skin. Because hydroxy acids increase
your susceptibility to sun damage, always wear sunscreen during use and
for at least one week afterward.</li>
<li><strong>Coenzyme Q10.</strong> Coenzyme Q10 is a nutrient that helps
regulate energy production in cells. Some studies have shown reduction
in fine wrinkles around the eyes with no side effects. Other studies
show that application before sun exposure protects against sun damage.</li>
<li><strong>Copper peptides.</strong> Copper is a trace element found in
every cell. In products applied to the skin, it's combined with small
protein fragments called peptides. Copper peptides enhance wound
healing. They also stimulate production of collagen and may enhance the
action of antioxidants.</li>
<li><strong>Kinetin.</strong> As a plant growth factor, kinetin may
improve the appearance of wrinkles and uneven pigmentation with minimal
irritation. It's unclear how it works, but it may help reduce wrinkles
by helping skin retain moisture and by stimulating the production of
collagen. It may also be a potent antioxidant.</li>
<li><strong>Tea extracts.</strong> Green, black and oolong tea contain
compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Green tea
extracts are the ones most commonly found in wrinkle creams. <br /><div style="text-align: center;">
<u>Consider these points when judging the merits of using a wrinkle cream: </u></div>
<br />
</li>
<li><strong>Cost.</strong> Cost has no relationship to effectiveness. A
wrinkle cream that's more costly may not be more effective than a
less-costly product.</li>
<li><strong>Latest research.</strong> Research suggests that certain
ingredients may improve the appearance of wrinkles. However, most
anti-wrinkle creams haven't been subjected to the comprehensive,
objective research required to prove this benefit.</li>
<li><strong>Lower doses.</strong> Nonprescription wrinkle creams contain
lower concentrations of active ingredients than do prescription creams.
So results, if any, are limited and usually short-lived.</li>
<li><strong>Daily use.</strong> You'll likely need to use the wrinkle
cream once or twice a day for many weeks before noticing any
improvements. And once you discontinue using the product, your skin is
likely to return to its original appearance.</li>
<li><strong>Side effects.</strong> Some products may cause skin
irritation, rashes, burning or redness. Be sure to read and follow the
product instructions to limit possible side effects.</li>
<li><strong>Individual differences.</strong> Just because your friend
swears by a product doesn't mean it will work for you. People have
different skin types. No one product works the same for everyone.</li>
</ul>
<h2>
Your anti-wrinkle regimen</h2>
An anti-wrinkle cream may lessen the appearance of your wrinkles,
depending on how often you use it, the type and amount of active
ingredient in the wrinkle cream, and the extent of the wrinkles you want
to treat.
<br />
But if you want to take the guesswork out of your skin care regimen, try
these more reliable ways to improve and maintain your skin's youthful
appearance.
<br />
<ul>
<li><strong>Protect your skin from the sun.</strong> Exposure to
ultraviolet (UV) light speeds up the natural aging process of your skin,
causing wrinkles and rough, blotchy skin. In fact, sun exposure is the
No. 1 reason for signs of aging in the skin, including uneven
pigmentation. Protect your skin — and prevent future wrinkles — by
limiting the time you spend in the sun and always wearing protective
clothing and hats. Also, use sunscreen on exposed skin when outdoors,
even in winter.</li>
<li><strong>Choose products with built-in sunscreen.</strong> When
selecting skin care products, choose those with a built-in sun
protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. Also, be sure to select products
that are broad spectrum, meaning they block both UVA and UVB rays.</li>
<li><strong>Use moisturizers.</strong> Dry skin turns plump skin cells
into shriveled ones, creating fine lines and wrinkles long before you're
due. Though moisturizers can't prevent wrinkles, they can temporarily
mask tiny lines and creases.</li>
<li><strong>Don't smoke.</strong> Smoking causes narrowing of the blood
vessels in the outermost layers of your skin. It also damages collagen
and elastin — fibers that give your skin its strength and elasticity. As
a result, skin begins to sag and wrinkle prematurely.</li>
<li><strong>Eat a healthy diet.</strong> There is some evidence that
certain vitamins in your diet help protect your skin, particularly
vitamins A, C, B3 and E. More study is needed on the role of nutrition.</li>
</ul>
If you're concerned about the appearance of your skin, see your
dermatologist. He or she can help you create a personalized skin care
plan by assessing your skin type, evaluating your skin's condition and
recommending products likely to be effective. If you're looking for more
dramatic results, a dermatologist can recommend medical treatments for
wrinkles, including prescription creams, botulinum toxin (Botox)
injections or skin-resurfacing techniques.<br />

Traditional moisturisers or sunscreens may provide many of the same benefits as some anti-aging creams. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facial_toning" title="Facial toning">Facial toning</a>, either by hand, using hands-free devices or through <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrostimulation" title="Electrostimulation">electrostimulation</a> of the facial muscles, is thought by some to reduce wrinkles.<br />

Mechanical exfoliation is an alternative to chemical peels using ingredients such as crushed apricot kernals, salt, sponges or brushes. What's her secret?</h2>

What’s the
secret to great hair, pore-free complexion, or flawless teeth? If there’s no fountain
of youth, the beauty industry’s most sought-after
stylists, aestheticians, and MDs unexpectedly simple advice to divulge their tricks for stopping
the clock might be the next best thing.<br />

<br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
Use sesame oil</h1>
"First thing every morning, I massage organic sesame oil from the
health-food store all over my body. Working it in wakes me up and really
gets my blood circulating. Plus, the oil hydrates my skin, giving it a
healthy glow. Then I jump in the shower—the oil naturally cleans away
dead skin cells."—<i>Lisa Hedley, founder and creative director of the Mayflower Inn and Spa, Washington, Conn.</i><br />
<br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
Consider fish oil</h1>
"Anti-inflammatories are the best anti-agers out there. From
improving heart and immune functions to helping hair grow and skin look
supple, they truly do wonders. I take three 500 milligram capsules of
omega-3 fish oil in the morning and at night. I look for labels that
say, 'molecularly distilled for purity,' which means pesticide-free."—<i>Arlene Noodleman, MD, medical director of the Age Defy Dermatology and Wellness Center, Campbell, Calif.</i><br />
<i> </i><br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
Down that java</h1>
"I avoid stained teeth by drinking my coffee quickly. If you sip it
over the course of an hour, it keeps coating and recoating. The same
goes for other staining liquids, like tea and dark juices."—<i>Elisa Mello, DDS, cosmetic dentist, New York City</i><br />
<i> </i><br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
Blow off base</h1>
"I've stopped using foundation every day, because it settles into
wrinkles and makes them more noticeable. I start with a concealer just
where I need it (under-eye area, blemishes, etc.) and follow it with an
allover application of tinted moisturizer."—<i>Joanna Schlip, celebrity makeup artist for Physician’s Formula </i><br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
Keep it simple</h1>
"Because I'm a plastic surgeon, companies send me so many skin-care
samples—and some of them have 10 different steps! But I'm realistic, so
there's no way I'm going to sign up for some huge beauty system that
costs hundreds of dollars and requires a commitment that I'm not willing
to make. Honestly, here's my daily skin-care routine: I go home, wash
my face with a drugstore cleanser, put on a moisturizer, and fall into
bed. I find that this simple regimen works well for me."—<i>Karen M. Horton, MD, plastic surgeon and reconstructive microsurgeon at the Women's Plastic Surgery Center, San Francisco</i><br />
<i> </i><br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
Don't eat white sugar...</h1>
"The number-one ingredient that I avoid in my diet is processed
sugar. The reason: It speeds up the aging process by binding to and
eventually weakening the collagen in your skin, which can lead to
premature wrinkles and sagging. I eat lots of vegetables and fruits
every day—and I steer clear of Twinkies at all costs!"—<i>Ava Shamban, MD, dermatologist and owner of the Laser Institute for Dermatology and Skin care, Santa Monica, Calif.</i><br /><br /><b>...Scrub with it instead</b><br />"In
the shower, I lather my hands with a mild cleanser, add a handful of
white sugar, and slather it all over my face and body. It makes my skin
so smooth and creates a great canvas for makeup."—<i>Carmindy, celebrity makeup artist</i><br />
<i> </i><br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
Pamper your eye area</h1>
"I treat the skin around my eyes separately. Face creams can be too
irritating, but products made for this delicate area work wonders for
smoothing fine lines. I prefer to use a gel formula; the lightweight
consistency keeps my eye makeup looking fresh all day."—<i>Laura Hittleman, Canyon Ranch</i><br />
<i> </i><br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
Spa up your hands</h1>
"I was really beginning to notice signs of aging on my hands, so I
started taking care of them with the same routine that I use to take
care of my face. Every time I exfoliate or use a mask on my face, I
exfoliate or apply that same mask to my hands, too. I also use an enzyme
concentrate on both my face and hands. I think this has made a big
difference."—<i>Kirsten Combs, spa director, Mii Amo, Sedona, Ariz.</i><br />
<i> </i><br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
Wear your vitamins</h1>
"I use an over-the-counter topical vitamin C cream that has a 30%
concentration. It's a wonderful antioxidant that helps my skin repair
itself from sun damage. Plus, it has natural sunscreen properties in it,
so combining it with my daily SPF has a synergistic effect."—<i>Arlene Noodleman, MD, medical director of the Age Defy Dermatology and Wellness Center, Campbell, Calif.</i><br />
<i> </i><br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
Freshen up with fruit</h1>
"I snack on anything with malic acid—like strawberries, apples, and
grapes—which act as a natural tooth cleanser and help break down
stains."—<i>Elisa Mello, DDS, cosmetic dentist, New York City.</i><br />
<br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
In a rush? Think primer</h1>
"If I'm running out of the house and don't have time for makeup, I
just put an illuminating primer all over my face and chest. It contains
tiny reflective particles that help bounce light around the skin and
make fine lines less noticeable."—<i>Carmindy, makeup artist and co-creator of Sally Hansen’s Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy.</i><br />
<br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
Try this hair trick</h1>
"Instead of using a styling gel to control my curls, I scrunch a
nickel-size amount of conditioner or treatment mask into my damp hair
before blow-drying. The conditioner not only tames flyaways and frizz
but also provides serious hydration, which, I believe, is the key to
younger-looking hair."—<i>Rita Hazan, celebrity colorist and owner of Rita Hazan Salon in New York City</i><br />
<br />
<h1 id="slide-title">
Love your lashes</h1>
"I take care of my lashes, so they don't get brittle and dry—and
eventually fall out. My secret: When applying my eye cream at night, I
dab a little bit extra onto the tips of my lashes with my fingers so
they stay moisturized and healthy."—<i>Joanna Schlip, celebrity makeup artist</i><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Univers, 'Zurich BT', sans-serif;">In addition, frequent drinks of good water is <b>crucial</b>. We believe the best water is water that has been filtered by reverse osmosis. Next best would be spring water. Tap water is not as good because of the chlorine and the fluoride (although it is better than nothing). Distilled water is not as good for you - its energy has been altered. In Europe distilled water is labelled ``not for human consumption". Mineral water is not as good because the minerals are not in a form your body likes. Water that comes from the top of mountains is no good because, according to genius Victor Schauberger, it is lacking in oxygen. Many people's health problems and anti-aging would improve if they would just drink more good water!</span></div>
<div align="justify" class="style5">
<br /></div>
<div align="justify" class="style5">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Univers, 'Zurich BT', sans-serif;">Nutritionists like to divide food into a number of different groups. I suggest that you think about dividing food up into two food groups. <b>One group produces acids when it is digested. The other group produces alkalies when it is digested.</b> Our bodies are constantly producing waste products, much the same as the exhaust coming from the back of your car. Waste products are acidic. They are called toxins. Toxins cause tiredness, pain and aging. Therefore, if you want more energy and less pain and anti-aging, you need to eat less acid-producing food. <br />
<br />
Foods that produce acids are carbohydrates and proteins. 'Foods' such as tea, coffee, softdrinks, sugar, flavourings, artificial sweetener and preserved meats are even more acidic i.e. toxic. And pollutants (such as heavy metals) and pesticides are even worse.<br />
<br />
To neutralise an acid you need an alkali. The main foods that produce alkalis are fruit and vegetables, particularly leafy, green vegetables, such as sprouts, parsley and cabbage. That is why people should eat LOTS of fruit and especially vegetables, for anti-aging. Raw is best. And steamed is much, much better than boiled (as it retains the vitamins and minerals). Also organic cottage cheese and yogurt. <br />
<br />
Once you begin to understand this, it is easy to see why so many people are suffering from health problems. Have a look at what people put into their shopping carts next time you are at the supermarket. (Lots of white bread, soft drinks and preserved meats). And have a look at what people have on their plate next time you are in a restaurant. Lots of carbohydrate and protein, and very few vegetables, except maybe for some lettuce.<br />
<br />
This is not to say that we don't need protein and complex carbohydrates. We do. The key is BALANCE. We need to balance the acid-producing foods we eat with much more alkali-producing foods, especially if we suffer from symptoms such as tiredness, pain, illness, gas and skin problems.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: #0033ff;">The other thing to bear in mind is that the body has hundreds of different chemical reactions going on, for which it needs at least NINETY different things, including vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids.</span></b> Therefore, people need more variety in their diet, to ensure that they get everything their body needs, for effective anti-aging.</span></div>

If your aim is to be lively and robust in your 80s and 90s, you'll
need to learn some anti-aging secrets that focus on the mind, body and
spirit. You are an integrated model -- there are many aspects of a
healthy life that rely on each other. Anecdotal information and science
have both shown this to be true [source: <a href="http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/abs/10.1089/acm.2004.10.S-15">Luskin</a>].
Crush the spirit and the body will follow. Stimulate the mind and your
mood will lighten. Exercise the body and your mind will be sharper. In
many ways, these anti-aging tips are interdependent.<br />

It is true
that one of the biggest keys to a long and healthy life is choosing your
parents wisely. That, of course, isn't truly a choice, but an
acknowledgment of the enormous role that heredity plays in health. But
you're not a slave to your family's past. New research shows that the <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/human-body/systems/nervous-system/brain-nervous-system-ga.htm">brain</a>
has an amazing amount of plasticity [source: Doidge]. Impending health
conditions can be planned for and bypassed (sometimes literally). Even
mood and perspective can be relearned and practiced for
stress-avoidance. What does stress avoidance have to do with it?
Basically, it enhances cognitive ability -- that is, it keeps your brain
sharp [source: <a href="http://www.chicagotribune.com/health/sns-health-diet-aging-brainpower,0,3680833.story">Judge and Barish-Wreden</a>]. But more on that later.<br />

1: Human Growth Hormone Therapy</h1>
Though controversial and only within the reach of those willing to shell out up to $300 a month, <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/aging/anti-aging-tips/hgh-aging.htm">human growth hormone</a>
(HGH) is the "best treatment we currently have for preserving vitality
until the end of your normal genetic lifespan," says LeConde, who at age
52 has been injecting himself daily with HGH for the past 5 years. The
30-gauge, one-quarter inch (6.35 millimeter) needle, he adds, is a "very
low obstacle" for his patients, most of whom are over age 50 and report
reduced body fat, increased muscle tone, enhanced sexual performance,
elevated mood and <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/skin-care/beauty/skin-treatments/skin-firming-treatments.htm">firmer skin</a> from HGH treatments, according to LeConde. HGH
has been approved by the FDA to treat adult human growth hormone
deficiency but not as a routine anti-aging therapy. That will take years
because "everyone is a candidate for HGH," says LeConde. In the
meantime, he adds, "those of us over 50 can't wait for the FDA to
approve one of the safest, most effective interventions we have." What
will scientific research have to say about HGH? Only time will tell --
we recommended starting your anti-aging regimen at home by living
healthy in the meantime.</div>

2: Restore Your Hormones</h1>
Loss of <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/diseases-conditions/chronic-fatigue/10-physical-energy-zappers.htm">energy</a>, <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/sexual-health/sexual-dysfunction/top-10-natural-ways-to-boost-libido.htm">libido</a>
and stamina are the symptoms that usually drive patients into the
waiting rooms of anti-aging doctors. They're also the "classic" symptoms
of declining hormone levels and the reason <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/women/menopause/hormone-replacement-therapy.htm">hormone-replacement therapy</a>
is the No. 1 weapon in the arsenal of prescription anti-aging medicine.
Production of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone in women and
testosterone in men decreases rapidly after age 35, says Nadu Tuakli,
M.D., of the Anti-Aging and Longevity Institute in Baltimore. Anti-aging
physician Richard LeConde, who prescribes testosterone for his female
patients, notes a dramatic improvement in their well being not seen with
estrogen and progesterone alone. It definitely "produces an awakening
in men," he says, but reports that most of the women for whom he adds
testosterone "refuse to give it up."</div>

3: Use a Wrinkle Reducer</h1>
Unless you've been hyper-vigilant about shielding yourself from the
sun (think living in a cave) since you were knee-high, the signs of <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/skin-care/beauty/anti-aging/aging-skin.htm">aging skin</a> -- fine lines, <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/skin-care/problems/beauty/skin-wrinkles.htm">wrinkles</a>,
brown spots -- are likely to emerge by the time you enter your fourth
decade. "Ninety-five percent of wrinkles are due to sun exposure," says
Doris Day, M.D., assistant clinical professor of dermatology at New York
University Medical Center. Consider a wrinkle eraser that
includes retinol, a form of vitamin A, to reduce fine lines and
wrinkles, fade brown spots and smooth skin tone. Retinol or tretinoin
topical creams exfoliate the skin and increase the production of
collagen. The creams come in a concentration of 0.02 percent and 0.05
percent so just about everyone can tolerate it, and they may even help
some people who have early signs of sun damage or skin cancer. Expect to
spend about $10 to $15 a month.</div>

<h1 class="articlePageTitle">
4: Sleep</h1>
You may have heard people say "I'll sleep when I die." Truth is, their <a href="http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/life/inside-the-mind/human-brain/sleep-obesity.htm">lack of sleep</a> may actually precipitate death. Research shows that if you sleep less than six hours a night, you are at far greater <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/diseases-conditions/cardiovascular/heart/5-risk-factors-for-heart-disease.htm">risk of having a heart attack</a> or experiencing a stroke [source: Roizen and Oz]. What's more, your mind seems to deteriorate at a faster pace. On
an emotional level, a lack of sleep makes you less peaceful and more
prone to anger. Sicknesses related to viral infections are also more
prevalent among people lacking proper rest. Eight hours of sleep each
night is important for your current physical health, as well as your
mood and your longevity [source: Roizen and Oz].</div>

<br />

<h1 class="articlePageTitle">
5: Consider a Good Supplement</h1>
So you want to ramp up the <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/food-nutrition/facts/antioxidant.htm">antioxidant</a>
quotient in your diet, but there are only so many spinach salads and
digestion hours in day. That's where supplements could pick up the
slack. Because we don't always eat as we should, Dr. Jeffrey
Blumberg of Tufts University advocates taking daily supplements of the
"classic" antioxidants: 200 to 250 milligrams of vitamin C, 100 to 400
International Units (IU) of <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/food-nutrition/vitamin-supplements/vitamin-e-overview.htm">vitamin E</a>,
and a mixed carotenoid supplement of 6 to 10 milligrams. "I always tell
people that taking antioxidants is 'like driving with a seatbelt,'"
says Blumberg. They can protect your life, but they are not a license to
drive recklessly.</div>

<h1 class="articlePageTitle">
6: Maximize Your Intake of Antioxidants</h1>
The evidence is "incontrovertible" and bears repeating, says Dr. Jeffrey Blumberg of Tufts University: <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/aging/aging-process/free-radicals-aging.htm">Free radicals</a> contribute to the onset of age-related diseases, and <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/food-nutrition/facts/antioxidant.htm">antioxidants</a> neutralize free radicals. Everyone
should take a combination of antioxidants through diet and
supplementation, he asserts. (There's more on supplements later in the
article.) To get that antioxidant boost, Blumberg advises eating
dark-colored vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, squash and spinach for
carotenoids and blue and purple berries for flavonoids. Because foods
contain many classes of antioxidants that work synergistically, they are
the superior source of antioxidants, says Blumberg.</div>

<h1 class="articlePageTitle">
7: Exercise</h1>
Regular aerobic <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/diet-fitness/exercise/sports-physiology.htm">exercise</a>
is a must-do for anyone committed to slowing the aging process.
Hundreds of studies show that exercise combats the loss of stamina,
muscle strength, balance and bone density that increases with age. Ready
to get started? The American Heart Association advises doing a single
set of eight to 15 repetitions, using eight to 10 exercises, two to
three times a week for a comprehensive <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/diet-fitness/information/usda-strength-training-guidelines-ga.htm">strength-building</a> program. After you get the flow of the routine, it should take about 10-minutes.</div>
<br />
<div class="line pageBreak">

<h1 class="articlePageTitle">
8: Remember the Spirit</h1>
Good health and less suffering -- those sound like worthwhile goals,
right? Studies show that religion -- or spirituality -- has a positive
effect on physical health and does, in fact, help reduce suffering
[source: <a href="http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/abs/10.1089/acm.2004.10.S-15">Luskin</a>]. Whether it's through <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/stress-management/how-to-get-started-with-meditation.htm">meditation</a>,
prayer or learning to forgive, research indicates that you can learn to
become happier and even more social through spirituality. Kundalini Yoga Meditation has been shown to have a positive effect on people dealing with severe levels of stress, <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/mental-health/depression/facts/depression.htm">depression</a> and obsessive compulsive disorder [source: <a href="http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/abs/10.1089/acm.2007.0684">Shannahoff-Kalsa</a>].
Medical researchers who have investigated the connection between mind,
body spirit -- particularly in the later years of life -- have found
that a focus on spirituality and its power to elicit positive change is
important [source: <a href="http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=531196">Williams</a>].</div>

9: Eat Well</h1>
The standard advice from the U.S. government is to consume five
servings of fruits and vegetables and three servings of whole grains
daily for <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/food-nutrition/vitamin-supplements/basic-vitamins.htm">vitamins</a> and minerals and the other healthful micronutrients in plants. Drink five to eight 8-oz. (227 milliliter) glasses of water. Get no more than about 30 to 35 percent of your daily calories from <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/food-nutrition/facts/the-facts-on-fats.htm">fat</a>,
with about one-fifth of that from unsaturated fat (e.g., 1 percent
milk, olive and canola oil); 15 percent from protein; and the remaining
calories from carbohydrates -- which can include fruits and veggies, and
should have an emphasis on complex carbs like oatmeal, whole wheat
bread and wild rice.</div>

<h1 class="articlePageTitle">
10: Stimulate Your Brain</h1>
It's one thing to live a long life, but if you want to live a long
and vibrant life, you're going to need a vibrant and sharp mind. The
brain, like the rest of the body, needs <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/diet-fitness/information/mind-body-exercise-connection.htm">exercise</a> to avoid becoming sluggish and even disease-ridden. A study of nuns found that the more educated women had fewer instances of <a href="http://health.howstuffworks.com/mental-health/neurological-conditions/alzheimers.htm">Alzheimer's disease</a>.
And even autopsy analysis found that while a particular brain may have
exhibited signs of the disease, the effects weren't obvious in the women
who had challenged their brains and had other interests outside their
work [source: Roizen and Oz]. The brain needs to be challenged to
keep neurological pathways open. Learn a new language, read or even
simply practice awareness of your surroundings: smells, sounds, visual
input. The old adage "use it or you'll lose it" has validity when it
comes to your mind.<br />

During the process of <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aging" title="Aging">aging</a>, an organism accumulates damage to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macromolecule" title="Macromolecule">macromolecules</a>, its <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_%28biology%29" title="Cell (biology)">cells</a>, its <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biological_tissue" title="Biological tissue">tissues</a> and its <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organ_%28anatomy%29" title="Organ (anatomy)">organs</a>. This accumulated damage is the result of <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxidation" title="Oxidation">oxidation</a> damage to the cell contents caused by <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_radicals" title="Free radicals">free radicals</a>. The longest a human has ever been proven to live is <b>122 years</b>, the case of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeanne_Calment" title="Jeanne Calment">Jeanne Calment</a> who was born in 1875 and died in 1997, whereas the maximum lifespan of a mouse, commonly used as a model in research on aging, is about four years. Genetic differences between humans and mice that may account for these different aging rates include efficiency of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNA_repair" title="DNA repair">DNA repair</a>, types and quantities of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antioxidant" title="Antioxidant">antioxidant</a> <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enzyme" title="Enzyme">enzymes</a>, and different rates of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radical_%28chemistry%29" title="Radical (chemistry)">free radical</a> production. The most important and challenging factor remains the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telomere" title="Telomere">telomere</a> limitation of each individual species.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
Average lifespan in a population is lowered by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infant_mortality" title="Infant mortality">infant</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_mortality" title="Child mortality">child mortality</a>, which are frequently linked to infectious diseases or nutrition problems. Later in life, vulnerability to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accident" title="Accident">accidents</a> and age-related <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_disease" title="Chronic disease">chronic disease</a> such as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cancer" title="Cancer">cancer</a> or <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardiovascular_disease" title="Cardiovascular disease">cardiovascular disease</a> play an increasing role in mortality. Extension of expected lifespan can often be achieved by access to improved medical care, <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccinations" title="Vaccinations">vaccinations</a>, good <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diet_%28nutrition%29" title="Diet (nutrition)">diet</a>, <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exercise" title="Exercise">exercise</a> and avoidance of hazards such as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco_smoking" title="Tobacco smoking">smoking</a>.<br />
<br />
<a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_lifespan" title="Maximum lifespan">Maximum lifespan</a> is determined by the rate of <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aging" title="Aging">aging</a> for a species inherent in its <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene" title="Gene">genes</a> and by environmental factors. One widely recognized method of extending maximum lifespan in organisms such as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nematode" title="Nematode">nematodes</a> is <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calorie_restriction" title="Calorie restriction">calorie restriction</a>. Another technique used evolutionary pressure such as breeding from only older members.<br />
<br />
Theoretically, extension of maximum lifespan could be achieved by reducing the rate of aging damage, by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tissue_engineering" title="Tissue engineering">periodic replacement of damaged tissues</a>, or by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanobiotechnology" title="Nanobiotechnology">molecular repair</a> or <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rejuvenation_%28aging%29" title="Rejuvenation (aging)">rejuvenation</a> of deteriorated cells and tissues and the enhancement of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telomerase" title="Telomerase">telomerase</a> enzyme activity. Future research will be geared towards telomere repair strategies.<br />

Research by Sobh and Martin (2011) suggests that people buy
anti-aging products to obtain a hoped-for self (e.g., keeping a youthful
skin) or to avoid a feared-self (e.g., looking old). The research shows
that when consumers pursue a hoped-for self, it is expectations of
success that most strongly drive their motivation to use the product.
The research also shows why doing badly when trying to avoid a feared
self is more motivating than doing well. Interestingly, when product use
is seen to fail it is more motivating than success when consumers seek
to avoid a feared-self.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-22">[22]</a><br />

Future advances in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanomedicine" title="Nanomedicine">nanomedicine</a> could give rise to life extension through the repair of many processes thought to be responsible for aging. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K._Eric_Drexler" title="K. one of the founders of nanotechnology, postulated cell repair machines,

<span class="mw-headline" id="Cloning_and_body_part_replacement">Cloning and body part replacement</span></h3>
Some life extensionists suggest that <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Therapeutic_cloning" title="Therapeutic cloning">therapeutic cloning</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stem_cell" title="Stem cell">stem cell</a> research could one day provide a way to generate cells, body parts, or even entire bodies (generally referred to as <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reproductive_cloning" title="Reproductive cloning">reproductive cloning</a>)
that would be genetically identical to a prospective patient. Recently,
the US Department of Defense initiated a program to research the
possibility of growing human body parts on mice.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-24">[24]</a>
Complex biological structures, such as mammalian joints and limbs, have
not yet been replicated. Dog and primate brain transplantation
experiments were conducted in the mid-20th century but failed due to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transplant_rejection" title="Transplant rejection">rejection</a>
and the inability to restore nerve connections. As of 2006, the
implantation of bio-engineered bladders grown from patients' own cells
has proven to be a viable treatment for bladder disease.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-25">[25]</a>
Proponents of body part replacement and cloning contend that the
required biotechnologies are likely to appear earlier than other
life-extension technologies.<br />
The use of human <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stem_cells" title="Stem cells">stem cells</a>, particularly <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embryonic_stem_cells" title="Embryonic stem cells">embryonic stem cells</a>,
is controversial. Opponents' objections generally are based on
interpretations of religious teachings or ethical considerations.
Proponents of stem cell research point out that cells are routinely
formed and destroyed in a variety of contexts. Use of stem cells taken
from the umbilical cord or parts of the adult body may not provoke
controversy.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-26">[26]</a><br />
The controversies over cloning are similar, except general public opinion in most countries stands in opposition to <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reproductive_cloning" title="Reproductive cloning">reproductive cloning</a>.
Some proponents of therapeutic cloning predict the production of whole
bodies, lacking consciousness, for eventual brain transplantation.<br />

older. Presumably, these genes are activated by environmental factors,
and the changes caused by these genes activating can be lethal. It is a
statistical certainty that we possess more lethal genes that activate in
later life than in early life. Therefore, to extend life, we should be
able to prevent these genes from switching on, and we should be able to
do so by "identifying changes in the internal chemical environment of a
body that take place during aging... and by simulating the superficial
chemical properties of a young body".<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-37">[37]</a><br />

<span class="mw-headline" id="History_of_life_extension_and_the_life_extension_movement">History of life extension and the life extension movement</span></h2>
In 1970, the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Aging_Association" title="American Aging Association">American Aging Association</a> was formed under the impetus of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denham_Harman" title="Denham Harman">Denham Harman</a>, originator of the <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_radical_theory" title="Free radical theory">free radical theory</a> of <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aging" title="Aging">aging</a>. Harman wanted an organization of <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biogerontologist" title="Biogerontologist">biogerontologists</a> that was devoted to research and to the sharing of information among scientists interested in extending human lifespan.<br />
<br />
In 1976, futurists Joel Kurtzman and Philip Gordon wrote <i>No More Dying. The Conquest Of Aging And The Extension Of Human Life</i>, (<a class="internal mw-magiclink-isbn" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:BookSources/0440362474">ISBN 0-440-36247-4</a>)
the first popular book on research to extend human lifespan.
Subsequently, Kurtzman was invited to testify before the House Select
Committee on Aging, chaired by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_Pepper" title="Claude Pepper">Claude Pepper</a> of Florida, to discuss the impact of life extension on the Social Security system.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saul_Kent" title="Saul Kent">Saul Kent</a> published <i>The Life Extension Revolution</i> (<a class="internal mw-magiclink-isbn" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:BookSources/0688035809">ISBN 0-688-03580-9</a>) in 1980 and created a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutraceutical" title="Nutraceutical">nutraceutical</a> firm called the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_Extension_Foundation" title="Life Extension Foundation">Life Extension Foundation</a>, a non-profit organization that promotes dietary supplements. The Life Extension Foundation publishes a periodical called <i>Life Extension Magazine</i>. The 1982 bestselling book <i><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_Extension:_A_Practical_Scientific_Approach" title="Life Extension: A Practical Scientific Approach">Life Extension: A Practical Scientific Approach</a></i> (<a class="internal mw-magiclink-isbn" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:BookSources/044651229X">ISBN 0-446-51229-X</a>) by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durk_Pearson" title="Durk Pearson">Durk Pearson</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Shaw" title="Sandy Shaw">Sandy Shaw</a> further popularized the phrase "life extension".<br />
<br />
In 1983, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Walford" title="Roy Walford">Roy Walford</a>, a life-extensionist and <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerontologist" title="Gerontologist">gerontologist</a>, published a popular book called <i>Maximum Lifespan</i>. In 1988, Walford and his student Richard Weindruch summarized their research into the ability of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calorie_restriction" title="Calorie restriction">calorie restriction</a> to extend the lifespan of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodent" title="Rodent">rodents</a> in <i>The Retardation of Aging and Disease by Dietary Restriction</i> (<a class="internal mw-magiclink-isbn" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:BookSources/0398054967">ISBN 0-398-05496-7</a>). It had been known since the work of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clive_McCay" title="Clive McCay">Clive McCay</a>
in the 1930s that calorie restriction can extend the maximum lifespan
of rodents. But it was the work of Walford and Weindruch that gave
detailed scientific grounding to that knowledge.<br />
<i><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed" title="Wikipedia:Citation needed"><span title="This claim needs references to reliable sources from July 2010"></span></a></i><br />
Walford's personal interest in life extension motivated his scientific
work and he practiced calorie restriction himself. Walford died at the
age of 80 from complications caused by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amyotrophic_lateral_sclerosis" title="Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis">amyotrophic lateral sclerosis</a>.<br />
Money generated by the non-profit Life Extension Foundation allowed Saul Kent to finance the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcor_Life_Extension_Foundation" title="Alcor Life Extension Foundation">Alcor Life Extension Foundation</a>, the world's largest <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryonics" title="Cryonics">cryonics</a> organization. The cryonics movement had been launched in 1962 by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Ettinger" title="Robert Ettinger">Robert Ettinger</a>'s book, <i>The Prospect of Immortality</i>.
In the 1960s, Saul Kent had been a co-founder of the Cryonics Society
of New York. Alcor gained national prominence when baseball star <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Williams" title="Ted Williams">Ted Williams</a> was <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryopreservation" title="Cryopreservation">cryonically preserved</a> by Alcor in 2002 and a family dispute arose as to whether Williams had really wanted to be cryopreserved.<br />
<br />
Regulatory and legal struggles between the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_and_Drug_Administration" title="Food and Drug Administration">Food and Drug Administration</a> (FDA) and the Life Extension Foundation included seizure of merchandise and court action. In 1991, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saul_Kent" title="Saul Kent">Saul Kent</a>
and Bill Faloon, the principals of the Foundation, were jailed. The LEF
accused the FDA of perpetrating a "Holocaust" and "seeking gestapo-like
power" through its regulation of drugs and marketing claims.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-38">[38]</a><br />
In 1992, the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Academy_of_Anti-Aging_Medicine" title="American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine">American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine</a> (A4M) was formed to create what it considered an anti-aging medical specialty distinct from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geriatrics" title="Geriatrics">geriatrics</a>, and to hold trade shows for physicians interested in anti-aging medicine. The <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Board_of_Medical_Specialties" title="American Board of Medical Specialties">American Board of Medical Specialties</a> recognizes neither anti-aging medicine nor the A4M's professional standing.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-NYTPoison-39">[39]</a><br />

<h2>
<span class="mw-headline" id="Aging_as_a_disease">Aging as a disease</span></h2>
Most mainstream medical organizations and practitioners do not consider aging to be a disease. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Sinclair_%28biologist%29" title="David Sinclair (biologist)">David Sinclair</a>
says: "I don't see aging as a disease, but as a collection of quite
predictable diseases caused by the deterioration of the body".<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-48">[48]</a> The two main arguments used are that aging is both inevitable and universal while diseases are not.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-49">[49]</a> However not everyone agrees. Harry R. Moody, Director of Academic Affairs for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AARP" title="AARP">AARP</a>, notes that what is normal and what is disease strongly depends on a historical context.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-50">[50]</a> David Gems, Assistant Director of the Institute of Healthy Ageing, strongly argues that aging should be viewed as a disease.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-Gems1-51">[51]</a> In response to the universality of aging, David Gems notes that it is as misleading as arguing that <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basenji" title="Basenji">Basenji</a> are not dogs because they do not bark.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-Gems2-52">[52]</a>
Because of the universality of aging he calls it a 'special sort of
disease'. Robert M. Perlman, coined the terms ‘aging syndrome’ and
‘disease complex’ in 1954 to describe aging.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-53">[53]</a><br />
<br />
The discussion whether aging should be viewed as a disease or not has
important implications. It would stimulate pharmaceutical companies to
develop life extension therapies and in the United States of America, it
would also increase the regulation of the anti-aging market by the FDA.
Anti-aging now falls under the regulations for cosmetic medicine which
are less tight than those for drugs.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-Gems2-52">[52]</a><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension#cite_note-54"></a><br />
